One of the most important things I’ve learned in my life comes down to two phrases:
– Never compare yourself
– Never compete
This is, in short, the complete opposite of what almost everyone does.
We go through life, taught to constantly compete. This applies to all sorts of things – such as money, possessions, travel, partners, jobs, intelligence, children, skills, etc…. The list can be really very long.
What if you turned it off?
Of course, any community will immediately start to sideline you because you’re not playing their game. They’ll think you’re a weirdo. Social rejection is something that almost no one can handle – except for really strong people. Nevertheless, it is here that one of the most important principles of peace of mind is found.
It is a leisurely journey on your own path.
It has nothing to do with excluding yourself from life and alienating yourself.
If you think about it for a moment, what’s the point of comparing yourself to anyone? We are incomparable.
Each of us, in addition to a unique DNA – also has a unique way of life and unique experiences. There are different places where we have lived and countless situations that have influenced where and who we are. All this makes us very different.
In addition, there are also our individual choices that we have made.
Only we know why we do what we do.
One of the first consequences of this approach is to get rid of jealousy. And this is a very serious problem for many people and a source of great anxieties.
Just because you’re successful at anything today doesn’t mean your situation won’t be radically different tomorrow. And then what ? Will you fall prey to your own snares of comparison and competition?
Is it about being better?
No, … I don’t think it’s about that – but about becoming your best possible self. And that’s only possible if you compare yourself to yourself from yesterday. Not to others. Only then will you be on the path of true development.
And what you will get additionally as a reward – will be your peace of mind.
