4 seconds Rule | polski poniżej

The 4 secunds rule.

Do you want to understand others better and also be better understood yourself? I will tell you about a rule that I follow. It is extremely simple and you can implement it immediately – and it will dramatically increase your ability to communicate with other people. And not after some kind of training for which you would have to pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time – but here and now. Do you want to know what it is? Read the short text below.

So listen:

Count to four each time your interlocutor finishes a sentence.

That’s all.

There was supposed to be a short text – and it was.

Start doing it right now – and you will see this magic formula work wonders.

First of all – your interlocutor will feel respected. He will feel that you are waiting quietly for him to finish the thought. You will eliminate the feeling of unnecessary haste and mistakes in expressing his thoughts. It will also make your conversation much better qualitatively.

The conversation will become more fruitful and smarter.

The break will allow you to better understand what he said.

Pauses in speech have at least the same meaning as the words themselves.

Finally, he will be better able to hear what he has just said. No rushing, no interrupting. He will also understand himself better then and his speech will become more coherent.

……

Start right away … with the next conversation. Then make it a habit. Become a conversation master and after every sentence someone says – count your mind to 4.

Even if your interlocutor has a tendency to accelerate and rush you – you will see that he himself will slow down involuntarily after some time … and will even apologize for interrupting you.

If I had just 1 piece of advice to improve your communication skills, I would give you just this one.
I practice it myself. Of course, now I don’t have to count in my head because I am taking a break. I don’t know if it takes 4s – or maybe even 5s. The important thing is that it is quite long. And even when I want to interrupt someone – I don’t stop. Sometimes, of course, I break this rule when I show my positive emotions towards the topic being discussed. It is natural, healthy and necessary. Naturally positive reactions are highly recommended.

To wszystko.

Przerwa pozwoli Ci lepiej zrozumieć to, co on powiedział.

Wreszcie – on sam lepiej usłyszy to, co sam właśnie powiedział. Bez poganiania, bez przerywania.

……
